How Much Does a Website Cost in Austin? Real Numbers From a Local Builder
The Question Everyone Asks Me First
I build websites for small businesses here in Austin, and the first question is always the same: what does it actually cost? Fair question. The answer you get depends entirely on who you ask, so let me lay out the real numbers I see every week.
The Three Ways to Buy a Website in Austin
DIY builders (Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy): $15 to $50 a month, forever. Sounds cheap. It is not. You are renting, not buying. Over three years that is $540 to $1,800, and the day you stop paying, your site disappears. You also do all the work yourself, which is why so many of these sites end up half finished.
A freelancer or small studio: $1,000 to $3,000. This is where most small businesses should be. You get a custom site, a real person to talk to, and in most cases you own everything when it is done. Quality varies, so ask to see live sites they built and ask directly: do I own the code and the domain when we are done?
An agency: $3,000 to $15,000 or more. Agencies do beautiful work for companies that need complex builds. But for a local service business that needs a sharp site that books customers, you are mostly paying for their office and their project managers. Timelines run 6 to 12 weeks.
The Trap Nobody Explains
The monthly-rent model is the most expensive option dressed up as the cheapest. A $30 a month builder costs over $1,000 in three years, and you still own nothing. A one-time build at a similar price is yours for good. If a deal keeps you paying forever to keep your own website alive, that is a lease, not a purchase.
What a Fair Price Should Include
Whatever you pay, make sure you get: a site that looks right on a phone, since most of your customers will see it there first; basic SEO so Google can actually find you; a contact form that delivers to your inbox; and your name on the domain. If any of those are missing, keep shopping.
What I Charge and Why
I keep my pricing public because I hate mystery quotes. A single focused page starts at $999. A full site is $1,499. Builds go live in days, not months, and you own everything: the code, the design, the domain. No monthly rent, ever.
And I do one thing nobody else around here does. I build your site preview before you pay a single dollar. You see the real thing first, then you decide. If you want to see what your business would look like with a site built for it, start here. It costs you nothing to look.
