Do Mobile Detailers Need a Website?

Do Mobile Detailers Need a Website?

I build websites for small businesses here in Austin. Lately I have talked with a few mobile detailers, and they all ask me the same thing. Do I really need a website when Instagram already brings me work?

Short answer: yes, if you want the jobs you are not seeing.

The customers you never hear from

Think about how people actually find a detailer. A few see your posts. But most of them have a dirty truck, ten free minutes, and a phone in their hand. They type "mobile detailing near me" into Google. Google shows them a map, some reviews, and a handful of websites. If you are not in that mix, you do not exist for that person. They call whoever is.

Instagram is great for showing off your work. It is bad at catching people who are ready to pay right now. Those people search. And search results come from websites.

What Google needs from you

Google wants to match a searcher with a business it can trust. A Google Business Profile helps. But a profile with no website behind it looks thin. A simple site that says what you do, where you do it, and what it costs gives Google something real to rank. It also gives the customer a reason to pick you over the guy who is just a phone number and a logo.

Here is the good news. You do not need a big site. One focused page can carry a detailing business:

  • Your packages and starting prices
  • The areas you cover, by neighborhood or zip
  • Before and after photos of real jobs
  • Reviews from real customers
  • One clear way to book

That is it. No blog. No ten page menu. One page that answers the questions a customer has before they hand you their keys.

The DM problem

Almost every detailer I meet runs bookings through DMs and texts. It works until it does not. Messages get buried. People ask the same three questions over and over. You answer them one at a time while you are elbow deep in someone's floor mats.

A website answers those questions once. What a full detail includes. How long it takes. What you charge. Where you go. The people who message you after reading all that are already halfway to booked. The tire kickers filter themselves out before they ever reach your phone.

That is the real return on a detailing website. Not just more leads. Better ones, with less back and forth.

What it should cost

This is where a lot of detailers get burned. Some agency quotes them five figures. Or a website builder signs them up for a monthly plan that never ends. Both are wrong for a one person or two person operation.

My take: a website is a tool, like your polisher. You buy it once and it works for you.

At my studio, a single focused page starts at $999. A full site is $1,499. It goes live in days, not months. And you own everything. The code, the design, the domain. No monthly rent. If you ever want to walk away from me, you take the whole thing with you. That is how it should work.

Compare that to renting a site for the life of your business and the math is not close.

Mistakes I see detailers make

A few things to avoid, whoever builds your site:

  • No prices anywhere. People will not call to ask. They will bounce and call someone who posts numbers, even starting numbers.
  • No service area. "Mobile" means nothing if I cannot tell whether you come to my part of town.
  • Stock photos. Your before and after shots are your best sales tool. A shiny stock photo of someone else's Lamborghini builds zero trust.
  • A buried booking link. The book button should be visible the moment the page loads, on a phone, without scrolling.

Fix those four things and you are ahead of most detailers in town.

See your site before you pay anything

If you run a detailing business in the Austin area and you want to know what your site could look like, I will build you a free preview first. You look at it, you decide, and you pay nothing until you say yes.
